When the New Jersey heat settles in, you need an air conditioner that delivers on effectiveness and keeps your home or business as cool as possible. What Are the Benefits of Choosing the Right Sized Air Conditioner for Your Home?

Is it really that big of a deal to find just the right air conditioner for your home? Here are some of the benefits to consider:

Energy Efficiency

You want your home to feel as cool as possible on those hot summer days. Choosing the right-sized unit is a more energy-efficient option than under-sizing or over-sizing it.

Comfort

When your unit is the right size for your home, it’s more comfortable for everyone. Installing the wrong size could result in a space that feels humid or is never cool enough.

Longevity

Choosing an AC that isn’t the correct size for your home can lead to frequent cycling and ongoing wear and tear on your system. As a result, you could wear it down faster, leading to a premature replacement, which increases your costs in the long run.

Noise Levels

Many homeowners don’t consider noise issues when it comes to a new AC installation. The right size should run smoothly and quietly. When you choose a unit that’s too big or small, your AC will start cycling on and off and work overtime to cool your home.

Should You Get a Big Air Conditioner?

Your air conditioner should meet your home’s needs, prompting some homeowners to go as big as possible. Larger ACs will cool down your home faster, but they also won’t remove enough humidity from the air. Many homeowners don’t realize that removing humidity is a crucial aspect of air conditioning and keeping your home comfortable.

Do You Need a Small Air Conditioner?

Investing in a smaller air conditioner is a tempting choice due to its cost. Although your upfront investment may be more reasonable, your long-term costs will skyrocket. If your air conditioner is too small, it will constantly operate to cool your space, thereby increasing your energy bills. In the long run, that small air conditioner is suddenly expensive.

What Are BTUs?

If choosing an air conditioner that’s too big or small isn’t the right answer, then what size do you need? Let’s look at BTUS. Also known as a British Thermal Unit, BTUs are the unit of measurement for an air conditioner’s cooling power. As a rule of thumb, you can multiply the square footage of your home or space that your AC will cool by 25.

This will give you an idea of the BTUs needed. However, if you can’t find the right size for your window, you should size up.

The same rule applies for your central air conditioner. To find the number of BTUs required, look at the entire square footage of your home you want to cool down, and not just a room for a window unit. Next, multiply that figure by 25. If the number falls outside of a typical AC BTU powerl, uou may have to size up a little to find the right size AC for you.
